Official Take A Kid Fishing Web Site Updated

MINNEAPOLIS – For the sixth time in as many years, Wal-Mart and FLW Outdoors will collaborate to bring children and their parents a healthy way to have fun in the sun through the Take a Kid Fishing program, scheduled for June 7.

To gear up for the event taking place at Wal-Mart stores across the country, the official Take a Kid Fishing Web site at www.TakeaKidFishing.com  has been updated with smoother navigation, new information and added games. Along with the Web site enhancements, Wal-Mart and FLW Outdoors will offer a sneak peak of the national event at five stores in the Little Rock, Ark., area May 24.

The site, designed to support Take a Kid Fishing, is available to children year-round and is continuously updated to help keep their interest in fishing piqued even when they are unable to get out on the water. Also an excellent resource for adults, the site provides tips for parents about how to introduce their children to the lifelong sport. In addition to providing online activities and valuable fishing information, the Web site offers a preview of the free, fun, educational and interactive games that will be available for children at Wal-Mart stores during the national Take a Kid Fishing event.

"Our research shows that most FLW Outdoors anglers started fishing at a very young age, so we wanted to make the site user-friendly for young visitors to visit time and time again," said Bill Petrowiak, vice president of communications for FLW Outdoors. "We also felt it was important to support the Take a Kid Fishing program 365 days a year and provide resources that even parents with limited fishing knowledge could use to get their children started in fishing."

Teaching children to fish can provide them with a lifetime of enjoyment. The Take a Kid Fishing site features fun games for children, offers safety tips, and includes information about knot tying and suggestions regarding where beginners can find fish. The site also teaches children about conservation and various species of fish.

FLW Outdoors is the world's leading marketer of competitive fishing. It administers the $5.76 million Wal-Mart FLW Tour, the world's most lucrative bass-tournament series; the $3.88 million EverStart Series, the pathway to the FLW Tour; the $6 million Wal-Mart Bass Fishing League for weekend anglers; the $1 million Wal-Mart Texas Tournament Trail; the $3.07 million Wal-Mart RCL Walleye Tour, the world's most lucrative walleye-tournament series; and the new $350,000 Wal-Mart RCL Walleye League for weekend anglers.

Wal-Mart and many of America's most respected companies support FLW Outdoors and its tournament trails. Wal-Mart has been the title sponsor of FLW Outdoors since 1997.
