APPLY FOR GIFFORD POINT ACCESS
PERMITS JULY 15 - AUGUST 15
LINCOLN, Neb. – Hunters interested in
hunting deer at the Gifford Point Wildlife Management Area (WMA)
during Nebraskas 2005 deer season may apply for access permits
from July 15 through August 15, according to Pat Molini, the
Nebraska Game and Parks Commissions District V wildlife manager.
Molini said a total of 200 authorization
permits will be issued that allow deer hunters to gain access to
the area.
To be eligible to apply for these
permits, hunters must have a valid statewide archery,
muzzleloader or Season Choice Area 21 deer permit. Successful
applicants will be issued a key to the access gate that leads
into the wildlife area. Only persons who hold a valid access
authorization will be allowed on the area from September 1
through the end of all valid deer hunting seasons.
Two deer hunters who want to hunt
together may apply as “buddies” to ensure that both or neither
will draw an access permit. Both applications must be submitted
in the same envelope. A buddy permit does not allow party
hunting. Each individual must harvest his or her own deer.
Vehicle access will be limited to the
rock road directly adjacent to the 8-foot deer fence on
Educational Service Unit property. Only foot travel will be
allowed in the interior of the area.
Application forms are available at
Commission offices in Omaha, Lincoln, Ak-Sar- Ben Aquarium and
Schilling WMA. If more than 200 applications are received, a
drawing will be held August 17 at the Commissions Lincoln
office.
For additional information, contact Neal
Van Winkle at the Schilling WMA at (402) 296-0041 or Molini at

MANDATORY BOATING EDUCATION
CLASSES SET FOR 14- TO 17-YEAR-OLDS
LINCOLN, Neb. – Classes are now forming
for 14- to 17-year-olds who must successfully complete a boating
safety course before operating a boat or personal watercraft in
the state.
Everyone under 18 years of age who wants
to operate a boat, including personal watercraft in Nebraska,
must have successfully completed a boating safety course and
have a valid boating safety certificate in his or her
possession, according to Herb Angell, Nebraska Boating Law
Administrator.
Angell says Nebraska law allows only
people 18 years of age and older to operate boats, including
personal watercrafts, in Nebraska waters. The only exception is
for people ages 14 to 18 who have satisfactorily completed a
boating safety course approved by the Commission and who have a
valid boating safety certificate in their possession.
Nebraska recognizes the successful
completion of certified boating safety courses in other states.
It is important to note that completion of the Home Study
Boating Education Course does not fulfill personal watercraft
education requirements for persons under 18 years.
