August 25 2006
Press Release
Pizza
Ranch Tosses Dough to Pheasants
Hull, Iowa Company is First Official Corporate
Partner of Iowa's Build a Wildlife Area Campaign
Saint Paul, Minn. - August 16, 2006 - Pheasants Forever
(PF) announced today that Pizza Ranch has become the
first corporate partner of the Build a Wildlife Area
campaign in Iowa. The Hull, Iowa-based company has also
signed on to be the presenting sponsor of the Youth
Village at the National Pheasant Fest coming to the Iowa
Events Center in Des Moines on January 19, 20, & 21,
2007.
"Our customers are pheasant hunters and
conservationists. It's pretty easy to see that when you
visit a Pizza Ranch on a Saturday afternoon during the
hunting season," explained Jon Moss, Pizza Ranch's Brand
Director. "By preserving land through the Build a
Wildlife Area campaign, Pizza Ranch will help protect
and strengthen the long-held family traditions and
values of hunting for years to come."
The Build a Wildlife Area campaign kicked off on August
10th at the Iowa State Fair and has a goal of raising $1
million for the acquisition of public Wildlife
Management Areas (WMAs) during the next year. Through
the unique campaign, Pizza Ranch's $5,000 donation will
be matched by grants from the Iowa Department of Natural
Resources and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service to
become a $15,000 contribution. Thus, the $1 million goal
would result in $3 million for permanent protection of
public WMAs. This is PF's first Build a Wildlife Area
campaign held in Iowa. Since its 2003 inception, Build a
Wildlife Area campaigns have resulted in the acquisition
of five new WMAs totaling over 1,400 acres in Minnesota
and one new WMA in Wisconsin.
Once purchased, these new WMAs will be transferred to
the Iowa DNR or local County Conservation Boards for
management and opened for public hunting and outdoor
recreational activities. The campaign will then renew
itself each year so that individuals and corporations
can participate for many years to come. Sites for the
new wildlife areas are not pre-selected prior to the
campaign. This decision engages all of Iowa to
participate each year. For more information about Iowa's
campaign, please contact Dave Van Waus at (641)377-3480
or via e-mail at dvanwaus@pheasantsforever.org <mailto:dvanwaus@pheasantsforever.org>.
Pizza Ranch has also partnered with PF to be the
presenting sponsor of the Youth Village at National
Pheasant Fest 2007 in Des Moines. The Youth Village will
be an interactive area on the National Pheasant Fest
show floor for youngsters to learn about dogs, dog
training, conservation, wildlife, hunting ethics,
shooting sports, and environmental science. Cabela's is
the title sponsor of National Pheasant Fest 2007.
"A partnership between Pizza Ranch and Pheasants Forever
may seem odd on the surface, but in reality, it's a
natural fit," explained Greg Emerick, PF's director of
corporate sales. "Pizza Ranch restaurants are part of
the rural pheasant range of the upper Midwest. Our PF
biologists are Pizza Ranch customers. Pheasants Forever
members are Pizza Ranch customers. And, on the flip
side, Pizza Ranch owners and employees are Pheasants
Forever members and supporters."
Pizza Ranch offers customers buffet-style lunch and
dinner as well as carry-out and delivery. While pizza is
obviously the focus, Pizza Ranch also offers chicken,
salad, and all the fixings. There are 61 Pizza Ranch
locations across Iowa with an additional 71 locations in
Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota,
South Dakota, and Wisconsin.
PF is a non-profit conservation organization dedicated
to the protection and enhancement of pheasant, quail,
and other wildlife populations in North America. PF and
its quail division, Quail Forever, have more than
115,000 members in over 660 local chapters across the
continent. There are 103 PF chapters and 1 QF chapter in
Iowa accounting for 21,000 members statewide. Those
chapters have spent more than $25 million to complete
77,416 habitat projects in the state, which are now
benefiting 750,000 acres.
