Here we are
in the first week of March and still no winter! I hope we still
get some snow fall up in the hills or it is going to be a low
water year!
The over all
fishing conditions have been pleasant with the temperatures
uncommonly warm. Good numbers of Steelhead are showing up on most
of our local rivers including the Vedder/Chilliwack, and Chehalis
Rivers, the trout and sturgeon fishing on the Fraser River has
been great, and March is looking good for some early lake fishing
opportunities. Welcome to the Fraser Valley!
The Fraser
River is in prime shape for trout fishing with water clarity of
over 6 feet; all indications are the trout fishing will continue
right through April. Try fishing the backwaters with leach or
minnow patterns or fish the main riffles with single egg patterns.
Small mayfly or stonefly nymphs are also worth a try.
Sturgeon
fishing has been good over the last couple weeks and will really
turn on towards the end of March and into early April. The fish
are averaging four to six feet, with the odd fish breaking the 7
foot range. Come and enjoy a sturgeon experience with

The Vedder/Chilliwack
system continues to produce good numbers of Steelhead through out
the river, with the best fishing happening during or just after a
rainfall. The fish are definitely holding in groups so continue
moving until you find the pack. With the low clear conditions tone
down your presentation and change offering frequently, as this
will be the key to success. March and April are great months to
try for steelhead on the fly. If you are new to fly fishing you
may want to book an instructional trip with Harrison Bay Guided
Services. Book today! (604) 796-3345
The Chehalis
River is extremely low and clear. There are a few fish around but
they are very spooky, and with the gin clear water you have to
approach each run with caution. Fish the chop water, and again
change presentations and use low profile bait. The fishing should
improve dramatically with the first decent rainfall we get. Plan
your outing around the rainfall on this system.
2003 is a
“pink year” book now to reserve your trip! (604) 796-3345
Harrison
River continues to produce some nice Cutthroat in the area from
the reserve down to the mouth where it joins the Fraser River. The
River is extremely low so use caution when boating. Minnow
patterns and small midges have been the best along the many
riffles. The fry are beginning to emerge out of the gravel a small
minnow imitation with a yolk sack attached is probably the best
pattern. There are also plenty of whitefish in the system and they
provide good action as well during the slow times.
The lower
Stave River is starting to produce better numbers of Cutthroat
trout on the warmer days as the fry begin to emerge on this system
as well. Again minnow patterns fished with a sink tip or slow sink
fly line work best.
