Falling hunters prompt recall of Gander Mountain tree stands

Falling hunters prompt recall of Gander Mountain tree stands

Last update: November 12, 2009 - 4:33 PM

It's not the kind of excitement that deer hunters are after - plummeting out of trees when their stand unexpectedly comes loose. St. Paul-based outdoor retailer Gander Mountain is recalling 13,000 tree stands sold between July 2008 and July 2009 because "t he clasp may open unexpectedly if the strap is fastened incorrectly, causing the treestand and user to fall to the ground," according to the an advisory from the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

" Gander Mountain has received two reports of consumers falling while using the treestands: one sustained unspecified injuries and a second person sustained a broken pelvis and broken arm."

Imported by Gander Mountain, the tree stands were made in China, although the "manufacturer" is listed as StrongBuilt of Waterproof, Louisiana. The two models retailed for $60 and $80. " Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled treestands and return them to Gander Mountain for a refund, exchange for a 2009 model or a store credit," the CPSC advises.
