New Book by Dave Genz Teaches Ice Fishing for Bluegills
It’s
a whole book on nothing but how to catch bluegills through the
ice, from the man who wrote the book on how to catch bluegills
through the ice. Dave Genz, recognized as the man who modernized
ice fishing, built much of his reputation on his ability to catch
big bluegills. He spent months being quizzed by outdoor writer
Mark Strand on everything he knows about how to find and catch big
gills. The result is the new book, Bluegills!
Through
the process of analyzing his thoughts and beliefs, Genz made
several significant breakthroughs in our understanding of this
popular fish, which are detailed in the book.
A
few examples:
Bluegills
are found in a wide variety of waters, including ponds, lakes,
river backwaters, and manmade reservoirs. Genz offers up a
completely new way of classifying the various bluegill waters,
based on water clarity and presence or absence of weeds. By
understanding the Genz formula, all ice anglers will be able to
more easily locate the biggest bluegills in their local waters.
A
secret hideaway of winter bluegills is something Genz calls a
sticky bottom flat. In the book, he teaches readers how to find
sticky bottom flats by studying contour lake maps and testing
bottom composition.
The
book has eight chapters, thoughtfully organized to teach you how
to gear up, understand the winter seasons, find bluegills on your
own, and get them to bite. He also discusses the important
subjects of protecting big bluegills for the future, and ice
safety.
In
a lot of ways, says Genz, I’ve been working on this book my
whole life. Dave Genz is the inventor of the Fish Trap instant
