Leech Lake Fishing Report - Minnesota

2/01/08

Below is my report from last years opener, this is a typical report for openers and I expect no less this year. I have several openings for the up coming season, book a great day or two of walleye fishing!!

5/14/07 - A Great Opener!!!

The opener for me and quests could not have been much better. I had some great guys from IL in the boat and we had a blast. With in the first 1/2 hour we boated a 25" and a 27" walleye. What a way to start the day that would only get better. I was a little worried that the lake was calm but it did not stop the walleyes from smacking our jigs and shiners. Walleyes were shallow as expected, active in 7 to 12 feet of water.

We had several boats move into our area and had locate other active fish. It was not long and we had a school to our selves. We ended up boating 26 walleyes on Saturday keeping 8. The weather was great as was the fishing.

Sunday was better then Saturday, I had the IL crew for a half day and by 11:00am we had boated 23 walleyes. After sending the group home with there limit of walleyes I picked up a couple of fishing buddies and went back out fishing. We had lots of fish and my good friend Robin caught a 31&3/4 inch walleye, the largest he has ever caught weighing in at just under 11lbs. The days total was 41 walleyes caught in my boat.

The bad news is that was not on Leech lake but an area lake that I fish as leech has had some sub-standard walleye fishing the last couple years. However I will be fishing leech in the days ahead and the out look is good. The DNR has stoked the lake appears to be making a come-back. My goal is to put customers on fish so if I have to fish another lake I will. I have several openings left in May and the later part of June so if you want to catch some walleyes and have a great day fishing give me a shout.
