People came
from all over to camp or stay at the Retreat, and even in Cordele
to watch the big 4th of July fireworks show. When I
was at Lucy’s Dock Store on Sunday morning the 6th, I
met a guy that came all the way from Augusta with his family. I
met a retired couple on the golf course on Friday afternoon of the
4th of July, too. They told me they had to stay in
Cordele at a hotel because every place at the lake was booked. It
was a great show and a wonderful weekend at Blackshear.
The topwater
bite is really in full swing. A yellow Heddon Torpedo worked well
for my partner the other morning. I took him to a good producing
bass spot on the Sumter County side and that paid off for us. Try
buzz baits, Zara puppies or Torpedoes and work ‘em fast early a.m.
or late p.m. Cats are biting all over the lake. The white perch
are still hot on the dock lights at night. The lights in Cedar
Creek were loaded the other night. Go get ‘em and safe fishing!!
When I was at
Mitchell’s Bait and Tackle last visit I believe that everybody in
there was loading up their minnow buckets with minnows. The
report from Mitchell’s is that the crappie have moved shallow now
and are easily caught around the cypress trees early in the
morning or late in the afternoon. They are biting really good at
night also. The new Cook Storage Buildings that Mitchell’s is now
carrying are really super nice and quality built. These buildings
are priced to sell. Mitchell’s is also now renting all U-Haul
equipment so if you need to move a large load or a small load, go
by and see them and you’ll find the right size for your needs.
You’ll get great service! Fishing is still great in August so
stop in at Mitchell’s and stock up on plenty of live bait, like
worms, minnows, shiners and crickets before you hit Lake
Blackshear. MBT also has a lot of artificial lures to make your
fishing day on Blackshear a success. Fill up your boat and your
truck with gas while you’re there; get plenty of ice and snacks
‘cause you know being on the water makes your belly hungry! MBT
is open Monday through Saturday from 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and
Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Visit Mitchell’s Bait &
Tackle today at 902 16th Avenue West, Cordele, Georgia
or call them at 229-273-1343 and remember, MBT says “Our live bait
catches fish or it dies trying.”
Joyce and
Rubin Christmas at Campers Haven tell me that the catfish are
still biting really, really good right now up the river. People
are still coming in with some really nice catches of catfish now
and the kids are still catching tons of catfish right off of their
own public dock right there at the store. Campers Haven serves
breakfast and lunch every day except Monday; cause Monday is the
cook’s day off! There is a boat ramp here, gas on the water, live
bait, showers, restrooms and obviously, any kind of campers are
welcome. This famous camping area is located right in a prime
area of fishing on the north end of Lake Blackshear. These folks
have a new attitude and are ready for the summer. Their camping
rates are really great and the food is real good, too. They even
have a pool table. Call to inquire. Mr. Christmas can tell you
where to catch the fish. Turn right as you travel west on Hwy.

Now there is no excuse for not getting the family out on the
water. Do you think that after 40 years of gunsmith and
engineering experience with rifles and shotguns that Buddy
Roseberry at Lake Blackshear Gunsmith knows what he is doing by
now??? I know cause I’ve seen his work. He’s phenomenal! He’s
an expert. He’s an award winning marksman. I’ll tell you that
he’s modest and I’ll tell you that he’s best I’ve ever seen. His
work does all of the talk for him. I’ll give you a rundown of
what he can do for you and your guns. Here we go……he can improve
your pattern, increase shot velocity, reduce recoil by 30 % to 40%
with his shotgun long forcing cone. He’s got muzzle brakes for
rifles to reduce recoil by 30% to 40%. He can completely restore
your gun whether it is a rifle or a shotgun. Be sure to take your
guns in so he can get them ready for turkey season. He can build
you a rifle for competitive shooting or hunting. He does rebluing.
He refinishes stocks, does checkering. He does glass bedding
stocks to provide maximum accuracy. He’s got Walther, Shilen and
Hart barrels. Take all your guns in to Lake Blackshear Gunsmith

300. You
can’t miss ‘em. I love to take some breakfast sandwiches down to
the Flint River with me. I call 229-535-4876 before I leave for
the dam. I pick ‘em up on the way and have a full belly before
I’ve caught my first Shoal Bass. For some great tasting food,
stop by Pecan Grove Restaurant but be sure you save room for a
piece of delicious cake or pie to top off a great meal. Mr. Jimmy
Griggs, owner of the new Dixie R. V. Park wants to invite everyone
to go by and check out this super nice R.V. park. There are many
reasons to come and camp here. The one I like the most is the
fact that Mr. Griggs’ park is located right in White-Tail deer
heaven. Dooly County is world renowned for its huge Flint River
Basin bucks. All you hunters and fishermen have to come and
stay. He is located 8 miles north of the Veteran’s State Park
entrance. There is a public boat ramp only 1/8 of a mile from the
park. Dixie R. V. Park’s camper spaces are not jam up against
one another. Everything is new and clean. Pricing for overnight
stays are very reasonable. See the advertisement for Dixie R. V.
Park on page 18 for all the details or just call Mr. Jimmy at
229-268-5712.
Call Joseph
or Ken at Tremont Archery to inquire about coming over and
practicing your archery skills for the upcoming deer archery
season. I’ve got to tell you that practice, practice, practice
makes for a perfect shot and there is no better place to go to
practice than Tremont Archery. What started out as a little fun
for Ken Phillips and Joseph Cantrell has turned into a real
interesting hobby and sport for these guys and all of their
customers that come from miles around to practice archery. Go see
this unique advertiser and let them set up simulated hunting
situations for you. They have bag and 3-D practice with broad
head and field point. They are open evenings and weekends. Call
to inquire at 229-273-0927 or go practice today at 1576 Tremont
Rd., Cordele, Georgia 31015. This is their second year of
business here! As we have mentioned before, Mr. Roy Cape fishes
in the Crappie U.S.A. tournaments. For up to date information
on the Crappie U.S.A. tournaments go to their website
www.crappieusa.com.
Mr. Cape has done very well in these tournaments. Mr. Cape is
giving away a very nice 4 X 6 trailer to the person who catches
the biggest crappie during the Crappie U.S.A. 2003 schedule of
tournaments. What a great prize! Cape’s Trailers and Deer Towers
sells EZ-Go Golf Carts at great prices. He now has Cargo Craft,
Inc. trailers in stock. His trailers are priced ready to sell.
Mr. R. T. Cape can really build a super nice deer tower stand as
well. Mr. Cape sells tons of both…….trailers and deer stands and
can build one special for you, too. He also has golf carts for
hunters and golfers. If you are in the market for an ATV
utility trailer, this is the place to shop. He is conveniently
located on Hwy. 280 East just 3 miles from I-75 at Cordele,
Georgia. Go see him personally or call him at 229-273-1568.
When I
stopped in to fill up at Fields Gas & Oil, Tommy and the crew were
busy fixing flat tires for customers, doing oil changes and
filling everybody’s tanks up with gas. Tommy sure greets you with
a big smile when you go in his station. He’s a full service
gasoline dealer and if you break down on the road, call him at
759-6586 and he’ll come and get you rolling again. Tommy sells a
ton of gasoline because he has great gas prices and he does a lot
of tire business. Tommy keeps my boat trailer in great working
order, particularly my boat trailer tires. Call Tommy today at
Fields Gas & Oil in downtown Leesburg at 127 Walnut Avenue and
inquire about the many services he can provide you with for your
cars and trucks.
How
convenient can it get? You can actually drive your boat up to
Lucy’s Dock Store and Marine and buy gas, drinks, sandwiches,
snacks and can do it all right from the water. And now you can
even drive your boat to Lucy’s Dock Store Marine and hear the
Sunday morning dock side worship service. It begins at 9:00 am
and she also provides complementary coffee and donuts. Call for
details. Lucy has done a complete remodeling of the store and
dock. It’s bigger and better now. She has even installed lights
on the deck for night. They have great homemade hamburgers and
chili dogs and there is a beach located next to the store and
marina. The marina has plenty of water toys right there in stock
at the store. They also have cabins for rent. The RV park is
available with a laundromat and clean restrooms. Lucy is really
a nice lady so you should go by and meet her. Call Lucy today at
229-853-2275 or 229-853-2463. Lowell at the new Arrowhead Grocery
has really got a lot going on now. This convenient and customer
friendly store is really a great place to shop. Everybody goes to
Arrowhead! I was in the store recently and now there is one huge
counter to shop the deli and to ring up your purchases. Stop by
and see for yourself! The crew at Arrowhead Grocery prepares
breakfast orders to go at the deli early in the morning. So if
you are heading out to the lake stop in before you hit the water
and they will fix you right up with delicious food. The store is
always busy. You can buy cold drinks, ice and snacks and gas up
the boat for a fun day on Lake Blackshear. Lowell wants all his
customers to know that without them, they obviously wouldn’t stay
in business. Remember, Lowell has discount prices on shotgun
shells and is loaded down with ammo. Go to Arrowhead Grocery and
fill up your minnow buckets. The crappie are biting all over the
lake. The report is that people are catching lots of catfish
now. At Arrowhead Grocery one really gets service with a smile.
They take great pride in customer service and look forward to
continued success. Arrowhead obviously has plenty of live bait
and artificials. Ask Lowell about the fishing report and he will
tell you all about Lake Blackshear. Go to Arrowhead Grocery today,
just across from the main entrance to Georgia Veterans Memorial
State Park. Once again, Lowell and the crew at Arrowhead Grocery
say, “Thanks for all the continued support.”
Be sure to
visit Walls Factory Outlet, Inc. for great buys on leisure wear.
Just in are ladies and men’s Columbia shirts for the summer and
they have a new shipment of Georgia Boots in stock now. They also
carry khaki slacks, nice short sleeve shirts, also fishing shirts
to beat the summer heat in. So just because hunting seasons are
over, doesn’t mean you don’t need to go by Walls. This discount
camo superstore is located just 4 miles out Hwy. 280 East in
Cordele. That’s 4 miles East of I-75 on Hwy. 280. Check out
Shannon’s Bug Tamer in 4D Mossy Oak Breakup. The new pattern for
this year is Realtree, Hardwoods Green. Walls is also loaded down

yourself. Just think of all the great gifts for all those
outdoorsmen and outdooswomen you can find there. Call Billy Hobbs
