The Iowa Department of Natural
Resources has removed all fishing regulations at Bays Branch to
allow anglers to harvest fish using nearly any means, except
explosives, electricity or any stupefying substances. The DNR has
begun to lower the water level at Bays Branch to promote
development of emergent vegetation, which is important as food and
habitat to waterfowl, songbirds and other marsh mammals.

floatable materials. Robert Timian, enforcement chief for the
North Dakota Game and Fish Department, said that old car bodies

not qualify as legal fish houses.

DNR issues safety reminder for boaters to stop that
prop. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) reminds
boat operators to make sure they turn off their engines when
people are in the water near the back of the boat. This safety
message comes after an accident on Monday in the Twin Cities where
a man was injured by a boat propeller.

MADISON – Preliminary figures show that
hunters set a new harvest record, registering 51,306 turkeys
during Wisconsin’s 2007 spring wild turkey season. This is a 9
percent increase from the 2006 spring harvest of 46,662 birds. The
statewide hunter success rate for all hunting periods was 25
percent, compared to 23 percent in 2006.

Online applications for North
Dakota’s 2007 fall turkey season are now available. Resident
hunters can apply, or print out an application for mailing, at
the state Game and Fish Department’s website, gf.nd.gov. Paper
applications will be available at license vendors by June 15.
The fall wild turkey proclamation, submitted to Gov. John
Hoeven’s office for approval, includes a season that extends
from Saturday, Oct. 13 through Sunday, Jan. 13, 2008.

Conservation officers' tales for May: Conservation officer (CO)
Brad Schultz (Center City) encountered a boat with three
anglers. One angler was using an extra line. All were throwing
large spoons for bait. When the officer contacted them they said
they were, "fishing for whatever they could catch." No one had a
fishing license. ID's were checked which led to one angler going
to jail on two outstanding warrants.

News Briefs from the Great Outdoors: RV fuel. Seven out of ten
recreational vehicle owners say they will put more miles on
their RVs this year than last year in spite of higher fuel
prices. The owners also said they would take more but shorter
trips. The survey of 444 RV owners was commissioned by the
Recreational Vehicle Industry Association.
