Louisiana Fishing Reports

Mid April 1998

Alexandria, Pineville, Oakdale

Robbie over at Bentley Hardware & Grocery reports that the Bass have been good over on Nantachie and Iatt lakes. They have been using light spinnerbaits with willow leaf blades. The White Perch have been slow. Robbie wants you dog owners to know that they are having a sale on Hunter’s Pride dog food, $7.49 for a 40# bag. Take your pictures in and let Robbie and Julie know how the fishing is.

I spoke with Jimmie over at Hilger Texaco in Lena and he tells me that the fishing is good on Cleco Lake. The Bass have moved to the shallow water and are on the cooler side of the lake. Spinnerbaits seem to be working well. The White Perch have been good to excellent using yo yo’s. The Catfish are always good and they are using shiners or nightcrawlers.

If you don’t have your Turkey stamp yet, you can pick them up at Hilger’s. They are also an official Wild Turkey Check Station. After opening weekend they had checked in 4 turkeys, the biggest was 18 #.

I had a great chat with Mr. Racine of Racine Auto Repair in Alexandria about Crappie fishin’. If you want to know about Crappie fishing in this area, Mr. Racine is the man to talk to. Even Nick Jorgenson, the host of Outdoor Adventures which can be seen on KLAX, Ch 31 on Sundays at 5 p.m., will tell you that Mr. Racine taught him all he knows about Crappie. If you are looking for a guide to take you Crappie fishing, give Mr. Racine a call. By the way ... they also do a great job of repairing cars and trucks!

Fish’n Heav’n out in Woodworth had a great opening weekend, I went out on Sunday to visit and take some pictures and Donzal and Howard told me that there was over 600# of catfish caught on their opening day. From what I saw and the folks I spoke with everyone was having a great time. This is a fantastic place to take the whole family, so make a point of going out and catching some big ole catfish.

Donzal asked me to remind everyone that they are open on the weekends and holidays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
