Dennis at Clarks Red River
Marina in Elm Grove reports that the fishing has been only fair. If the water
continues to warm up they expect things to get much better. The Catfish have been good in
the river channels and around the jetties. They have been using nightcrawlers and shrimp.
YoYos are using shiners. The Bass are starting to pick up in the backwater areas
using lizards , worms and slow rolling spinnerbaits. The Perch have been slow. Be sure to
give them a call, they do a daily update on the fishing conditions.
Shirley at Youngs Grocery & Bait in Benton reports
that the Bass fishing is pretty good. It really depends on the day and how hard you want
to fish. Only in Louisiana can you wake up with weather like ours. But if you plan to fish
or hunt you just get prepared for the cold and wind, and if you are lucky you have a nice
day. Cypress fishing has been slow. Everybody wants the White Perch to bite, but no one
has had any good success. The Perch being caught are on jigs and shiners. Catfish are
still hitting the canadian crawlers, but mostly at night. The duck hunting was excellent
with most everyone bagging the limit. Next month we will have the results of our Big Buck
Contest. So until then, stop by for coffee and your fishing supplies.
The winner of the Woodwards Taxidermy BIG BUCK CONTEST is
Bill Mooney. See the photo of the huge 12 point buck he took over around Ringgold. This
monster has 10 typical points and 2 sticker points. The unofficial score is 173 without
deductions and 163 net score. If this score holds up Bills buck will make the
Louisiana State record book. Congratulations Bill.
