SOUTH BRANCH

Jose Lake Resort (989-257-3313) as of the 1st week of July reports fishing good in Jose Lake for smallmouth & largemouth bass. Bluegill & crappie fishing also good.  For a current report call the Resort.

MIO

As of the 1st week in July Jerry from Gotts’ Trophy Waters Fly Shop & Guide Service in Mio reports the hot weather has sort of made the fish dormant. A few cool nights should perk them up. OSCODA

As of July 1st Bobby at Wellman’s Sports Center in Oscoda (1-231-723-3901) reports lake trout fishing very good 60’-80’ down along with a few salmon.  Good walleye fishing drifting in The Au Sable River during the day, trolling Rapalas at night. Salmon are expected any day. The late spring moved the salmon season up a couple of weeks. For a current Oscoda area fishing report call Bob at Wellman’s 1-231-723-3901.

Wellman’s Sport Center is a landmark in Oscoda. A one stop fishing center for fishing supplies for the area. A popular charter center. Fish cleaning service. Good service and advice from experts. Be sure to stop here first.

Bob from Cooke Dam Bait as of July 1st reports Good crappie, bass & bluegill fishing by Cooke Dam. Some perch & walleye are also being caught. For a current report call Bob at 989-362-6488.

From Oscoda take River Road for 14 miles to Cooke Dam Bait and Au Sable Cabins. From Hale, take M-65 to River Road, north of Hale, approximately 8.5 miles. The surroundings are just gorgeous and wildlife can be seen about any time. The Au Sable River is just minutes away and fishing is terrific at the Dam. Walleye, bass, pike, you name it. All live bait needed plus fishing tackle, beer, wine, cold drinks and other goodies available. Comfortable cabins with very clean washrooms. Refrigerator, stove and heat in all cabins.
