A Hodenpyle Dam Fishing Report from Thirlby Auto & Sporting Goods: As of the 1st week of July fishing good at the Dam. A few walleye, crappie, bluegill and catfish are being taken. For a current fishing report call 1-231-885-1971. Thirlby’s Summer Fishing Contest is now on until Sept. 1st. Nice prizes to be won. You must register at the store.

Thirty two miles from Traverse City in Mesick is Thirlby Auto & Sporting Goods of Mesick. (1-231-885-1971) Not only do they sell auto parts, but have a large tackle department including live bait, minnows, crawlers, leeches, etc. Hodenpyle Dam on the Manistee River is just a short drive away featuring some of the best walleye fishing in the territory, including big pike and plenty of pan fish.


Greenwood Country Store (formerly Steve’s Grocery) is the ‘little biggest grocery store’ in Manton. Carrying a complete line of groceries along with snacks, fresh and cut meats, meat for sandwiches. Deli bar now open. Seasonal plants, lawn ornaments and a complete line of cemetery stones. Crawlers and worms at all times. Meat cutter Jerry Loval, will cut your meat to order. As of the 1st week in July Michele from Lake City Sport Shop in Lake City reports laregmouth & smallmouth bass, pike, bluegill fishing very good in Lake Missaukee. Walleye fishing best an hour before dark. This area is a perfect vacation area with a wonderful beach along with good fishing. Michele’s tackle shop offers all you need for local fishing along with live bait. Call 231-839-4875 for a current fishing report or advice on the area.


Irish Inn Family Dining is a popular dining establishment in Marion, MI. Lunch and dinner specials are served daily. ALL -YOU-CAN EAT cod for $6.50. Home made soups and pies served fresh daily. As of the 1st week of July, Bob at the Middle Branch reports fantastic fishing for bluegill in Rose & Hicks Lakes. Nice walleye being caught in the Muskeogon River between M-115 &M-66 bridges. Bass fishing well in the Martini floodings.

Practicing for a Sunday, July 6th, bass tournament in Traverse East Bay, Rick Hamilton caught a 5 pound, 14 ounce smallmouth bass.
