As of the 1st week of July, Bill from Higgins Lake Sport & Party Store, (989-821-9517) reports perch being caught off the drop-offs in about 50’. Lake trout caught trolling cow bells & minnows 80’-100’. Four - five pound smallmouth bass are being caught around the rocks off the island. ORV stickers now available. The Great Circle Campground in Roscommon, is now under new ownership. Bob and Linda Tuite promise the same and better service for ‘Happy Camper’ including fishermen. Situated in the heart of fine forestry with full hook up RV sites to tent campers. All that is necessary to make campers comfortable are at hand such as showers, laundry, picnic table, etc. A large playground for kids and competition can be had playing horseshoes, volley ball and badminton, or go hiking on interesting forest trails. Good fishing Higgins Lake is 2.5 miles and Houghton Lake 4 miles, where canoeing, boat rentals, miniature golf, and good restaurants are available. Jack’s Place, (989-275-4218) heading west on M-18 from Roscommon, past the Hiawatha Canoe rental is Jack’s Place. Serving quality food at reasonable prices. What is significant about Jack’s place, 3-4 tons of fresh fish is served annually. Fresh fish is flown in weekly from Alaska. Served Fridays, all you can eat fish for $7.95, ½ pound of perch also for $7.95. Always fresh cole slaw. Meals are served right up to closing time. A full menu is also available.

 ST. HELEN’S

As of the 1st week of July, Dave from Malcolm’s Tackle Box (989-389-2100) reports good fishing for bass, bluegill & rock bass  in Lake St. Helen. Walleye are being caught on crawler & leech harnesses.  For current fishing report call Dave at the shop.
