The
Muskegon River Report:
Due to the heavy rains in late June, the water level rose to 7.4
feet on July 1st. The water temperature increased to 66
degrees, 4 degrees cooler than last year. Smallmouth fishing has
been very good since late June. Smallmouth can be caught
throughout the river system from above Big Rapids to Muskegon
Lake. Fly fishermen looking for smallies should try streamers,
crayfish patterns, and the Chicago Leech which is sold exclusively
through Parsley’s Sport & Fly Shop in downtown Newaygo.

Hesperia
Sport Shop reported
brown trout fishing has been outstanding at the White River dam in
Hesperia. “Buckets full” of panfish including 8 to 9 inch bluegill
and 14 inch crappies are being caught in area lakes. Smallmouth
bass fishing was just starting in late June below the dam. Call

Excellent
walleye and pike fishing in the Muskegon River at Roger Heights
reported Maple St. Sports. Small trout and rock bass were
being caught in the downtown segment of the river. Call the shop

the following flies for the Pere Marquette River: bead head green
and tan caddis, bead head Prince nymphs, stonefly nymphs, pheasant
tail nymphs, hare ear nymphs, and scuds. The 46th
Annual Trout-A-Rama will be held during the last week in July in
downtown Baldwin. This popular summer festival attracts visitors
