Cortland County

The month of June highlights the opening of Bass Season and many of Cortland County Lakes offer some good fishing opportunities. Little York Lake on Rt. 281 has probably the biggest bass in the county. It’s a tough lake to fish but can reward an angler with a Bass of a lifetime. Little York is mainly bowl shape d, with the exception of a few weedy flats, small coves and a channel.

Plastic worms, jigs tipped with a pork trailer and topwaters work well here. Tully lake is another big bass hideout. Anglers can access Tully Lake with car top boats. There is no regular boat launch. Spinnerbaits, topwaters, jigs and worms will take some really big Bass here.

Otisco Lake will be holding its Annual Opening Day Tournament. You can pick up tickets and enter at Otisco Lake Campgrounds. They will be the site of the weigh in and prize give away. They also have a boat launch and convenience store. Just up the sound is Otisco Lake Marina. They also have a boat launch and are an authorized Johnson Evinrude dealer, along with Duranautic and Grumman Boats.

Otisco has some great opportunities for Large and Small Mouth Bass.

Spinnerbaits and soft jerk baits work great on the smallies and worms and jigs for the Largies. Just remember with the late spring we had this year, these fish may still be on the beds on the opener. Release those Bass to fight another day! Enjoy the fishing season.
