SARATOGA,
SACANDAGA, LAKE GEORGE, GLENS FALLS
For those of
you that live in our area, don’t take for granted the chance to
get out and fish in our own back yard. Many local anglers ask me
where should they go to fish and I just tell them to pick a spot
or ask what do they want to catch and it helps to narrow the
waters down to one. The Adirondack Regional Tourism Council
publishes an Angler’s Guide to Adirondack Lakes, Ponds, Rivers and
Streams that can be had by contacting any of the county tourism
offices located with-in the Adirondack Park. This fishing guide is
full of information leading to the thousands of lakes, ponds and
streams that beckon anglers to the Adirondacks.
The
Adirondacks present a pleasant problem that is not found in other
regions of the country, too many waters to choose from. This guide
can help you plan your next fishing trip. Locator maps to
wilderness Brook Trout, roadside Lakes and Ponds, Adirondack
Rivers and some of our states “Big Waters” (St. Lawrence River,
Lake Champlain and Lake George) are all covered in this
publication.
Many of us
get stuck in a rut by fishing the same body of water over and
over. With so much water and different kinds of fish to choose
from, you could fish every day all summer and not fish the same
spot twice. Also published by the Council is an Adirondack Fishing
Directory. It’s your source for Charters, Bait and Tackle Shops,
Guide Services and Marinas in the Adirondacks. These helpful
guides can help plan your next outing. Published and distributed
by the Adirondack Tourism Council, PO Box 2149, Plattsburg, NY
12901-2149 or phone 800-487-6867 or go on line
www.adk.com.
Local bait and Tackle Shops are still your best source for how and
what works best in any given area.
Reports by
fishermen on catches have been very good, with some reporting
limiting out on several of our waters for brook trout. I have not
been so lucky. I went to Hewitt Lake on two different occasions
and did not catch a fish, but I fished the early morning hours.
I talked to
one angler who fishes the afternoon who said he had done well on
more than one occasion. Potential for trophy size fish could be
good on this body of water because access is limited. You must
park and carry your canoe. Pack light as it is a long walk in to
the public access area and the trail is not well maintained. |
