THOUSAND
ISLANDS - CAPE VINCENT - CLAYTON - ALEX BAY
All along the
St. Lawrence River from Cape Vincent to Alex Bay, the fishing is
picking up. Bullheads are hot. In the bays and the streams all
along the river, they are catching lots of bullhead for some sweet
eating. Perch are hitting in Eel Bay and many other bays. Pike is
slow, but as the water warms it will get better. There are bass
everywhere, they are still on their beds, but when the season
opens the bite should be great. Use live bait, night crawlers and
tube jigs. Ask your favorite bait and tackle shop for the latest
information. If you are looking for a place to dock your boat for
the season in this area, check out the Millens Bay Marina and
Cottages. Millens Bay is a well protected bay just a short
distance from Cape Vincent and Lake Ontario. They are near Carlton
Island where some of the best bass, muskie, walleye and northern
pike fishing is available. They have a launch, store and rent
boats & motors and cottages. Call 315-654-2175 for reservations.
The Cape
Vincent Chamber of Commerce Spring Fishing Derby was held on May
10-11 and was a success. The winning walleye was caught by Ray
McIntosh of Chaumont, a 31”, 11lb-2oz beauty. The largest Northern
Pike was caught by “Huck” Balcom of Cape Vincent, a 34 ˝”, 9lb-9oz
monster. The largest Brown Trout was a 24 ˝”, 6lb-9oz dandy,
caught be David LaLond of Clayton. There was no lake trout
entered. Most of the fish were caught in Chaumont Bay.
Congratulations to all.
Look for a
Walleye and Small Mouth Bass derby on August 23-24, sponsored by
the Cape Vincent Chamber of Commerce.
On State
Route 12E just opposite Cedar Point State Park is the Cedar Point
General Store where in addition to gas & oil you can purchase
almost everything needed for a stay at the State Park including
groceries and camping gear. They have super pizza and delicious
deli sandwiches.
For a
wonderful cottage camping experience on the St. Lawrence River,
look for Mil’s Riverfront Cottages and Motel. Located on State
Route 12 just east of Clayton, Mil’s has excellent docks for your
boat or you can rent one of their boats. Round Island is nearby
and is an excellent fishing hole for all the game fish in this
area. Call 315-686-3891 or toll free 877-516-9684 for
reservations. |
