MADISON LAKE
AREA REPORT
Rick’s
Carryout is located south of London on St. Rt. 56. Be sure to stop
by Rick’s Carryout for all your bait, tackle, snacks, and Ohio
Lottery tickets. Also get the latest fishing report. Rick’s

Rick says
March was producing lots of panfish and bass in the local ponds.
Some saugeye were also being caught in the Spillway at Deer Creek
Pappy’s
Anglers Parlor reports the end of March was producing hundreds of
crappies (15” crappies were common) at Madison Lake. Last year 4
or 5 17”+ crappies were caught (white crappie) – who knows, maybe
a new state record will be caught at Madison Lake this year. Lots
of channel cats up to 10 lbs. were also being caught.

DEER CREEK
AREA REPORT
Arrow Carryout
and Stuff is located on St. Rt. 207 on the south side of Mt.
Sterling. They have the areas largest selection of tackle. They

firewood, snacks, pop and carryout wine, beer and liquors.

LAKE &
ASHTABULA COUNTIES AREA REPORT
Grand River
Tackle reports some steelhead are being caught in the river.
The steelhead
were in all the area creeks at the end of March. Jigs tipped with
maggots and egg sacks were the best producers. As of mid-March
the leaders of the steelhead contest were 1st Larry
Davis 35” 15 lb. 9 oz. 2nd Raleigh Guise, Jr. 34.4” 15
lbs. 6 oz. 3rd Dale Telischak 34.14” 13 lb. 3 oz.
By the time
you read this the walleye fishing should be heating up in the
Grand River.
DWB Sports
reports some steelhead were being caught at the end of March.
As of March 15th
the leaders of the steelhead contest were: 1st Larry
Davis 15 lbs. 12 oz. 34 ¾” 2nd Ted Heaton 15 lbs. 8
oz. 33 ¼” 3rd George Simpson 13 lbs. 3 oz.

AREA REPORT
Linda at
Monty’s Mosquito Lake Carryout reports the fishing was going
strong. Lots of walleyes and crappies were being caught at the end
of March. Monty’s has everything that you need from a great
breakfast to delicious broasted chicken. They also have a complete
bait and tackle shop. What more can you ask for, right, nothing.

Pete, at L & D
Bait and Tackle reports lots of steelheads were being caught in
March.

a lucky angler caught a lake trout in the Rocky River. Pete has
been around the lake fishing for over 20 years and this is the 1st

VERMILION AREA
REPORT

PARK AREA REPORT
Lagoon Deer
Park is now open April 1st for fishing. Jeff’s trout
lake is full of delicious and feisty rainbow trout. These babies
can really smoke a Mepps spinner or a roostertail. They also love
shiner minnows fished with a bobber. If you have cabin fever and
want to catch a delicious dinner, grab your pole and kids and head
for Lagoon Deer Park. They are conveniently located west of
Sandusky on State Route 269. They are only a half mile south of
St. Rt. 2, or a half mile north of St. Rt. 6.
Don’t forget
to take the kids to see all the animals at Deer Park. They have
over 200 animals and it’s really fun to feed them and watch them
play. The animal and petting zoo will open in May. We will have
the opening date in next months issue.
SANDUSKY BAY
AREA REPORT
Driftwood
Efficiency Cottages is looking forward to a fantastic fishing
season in 2003. If you haven’t stayed at Driftwood Cottages you do
not know what you are missing. My family has been taking a weeks
vacation there every summer for the past 20 years and we really
enjoy it. Their accommodations are great. The fishing is
fantastic and the people are friendly. Be sure you call Driftwood

Paradise Acres has a stocked private pond for kids fishing.
Lamberjack’s
Marina, Campground & Cottages is located on W. Locust Point Road
right on Lake Erie and Turtle Creek. Your dock or the ramp is only
a hundred yards right off Lake Erie. You will be just minutes
from West Sister Island and Lake Erie’s great walleye fishing
reefs (also outstanding yellow perch fishing).
Lamberjack’s
has floating docks, concrete docks and a boat ramp that’s not
steep. They also offer dry dock boat storage with ramp for only
$200.00 a year.

(from the bank) all over the lake. Minnows fished with floating
jigs about 8” off bottom was the best producer. Some nice stripers

Camp Denis has
been known for years as a great place to go grouse or bear hunting
or walleye and pike fishing. Now it is fast gaining a reputation

bought 4 new moose camps to add to their operation. (This now
makes 12 outpost camps.)
Camp Denis has
13 cabins. They all have bathrooms with flush toilets. Over half
of their cabins also have showers, the rest of the cabins will
soon be built with their own showers.
Last year the
walleye fishing was better than excellent with the largest
weighing in at over 13 pounds.

season.

Lakes will open on April 15th and they are located on
St. Rt. 35 (just 1 mile west of I-71). They have 3 grass banked

Chillicothe and Waverly in secluded Pike County. Neff’s customers

the way, but boy is it worth it. These 2 lakes and their setting
is absolutely beautiful. Best of all, these lakes are stocked full
of shovelheads, bluecats and channel cats.
The owners are
Michele and Jeff Burleson. They have the lakes in great shape.
They also offer a tagged fish, weekly, monthly, a 35 lb.to 44 lb.,
a 45 lb. to 54 lb. and a 55 lb. and over jackpots. They have also
remodeled the bait shop with lots of tackle, food and drinks.
New for 2003,
Highland Lakes is offering outdoor family movies on Friday and
Saturday nights at 9 p.m., kids fishing contest on Saturday from 7
p.m. – 8:30 p.m., and a Saturday 9 p.m. – 11 p.m. a free 2 person

The new lake
is a 4 acre lake and the old lake is a little over 2 acres.

WOW! Long’s Pay Lake was hot at the end of March. Lots of
shovelheads up to 40 lbs. were caught plus a 49 lb. and 51 lb.
shovelhead. Some blues up to 30 lbs. were also being caught. Cut
bait was the best producer.

LAKE AREA REPORT
Rohr’s Lake is
located south of St. Rt. 224 west of Nova, Ohio. Just follow the
signs. They are stocked with bluecats up to 52 pounds, channel
cats, bass, panfish, and rainbow trout.
My son, Shawn
and I fished at Rohr’s Lake several years ago and we had a great
time catching crappies and channel cats. If you are looking for a
clean, fun place to fish, give Rohr’’ Lake a try. You’ll love it.

ZANESVILLE

Sportsman
One-Stop has new owners and a new look with walls busting with new
inventory. They have re-opened their Drive-Thru and restocked with

Their prices are the best in town. They will also be giving away a
rod and reel combo each month (March – October) and a few T-shirts
or hats. There’re located just 1 mile from Dillon Lake, with all
your bass, crappie, bluegill, saugeye and catfish needs. They also
sell hunting and fishing licenses. They also accept debit and

SKY LAKE AREA
REPORT
Sky Lake is
located about 1 ½ miles west of St. rt. 7 on Co. Rd. 32. They have
a 5 ½ acre lake and a 2 acre lake. Both lakes are stocked weekly
with farm raised channel cats (2,500 to 3,000 lbs.) and
shovelheads and blue cats (approx. 2,000 lbs. a week). They have a
$1,000.00 weekly jackpot plus tagged fish. The small lake has 3
tagged fish for $100.00 and 1 for $500.00. The big lake has 4 fish
tagged for $100.00 and 1 for $500.00. (more tagged fish to be
added soon.)
Sky Lake also
has delicious food, pop and snacks. They also have clean

Heaven Pay Lake is already getting the area catfishermen excited.
This new lake is located on Swope Road in Bethel, Ohio. The
amazing thing is it won’t open till spring 2004. Everybody must
remember the quality lake that Robin used to run (Hazenfield’s
Hawg Heaven) and all the big quality cats that she had swimming in
her lake. Robin is digging as fast as possible but unfortunately

Rainbow Lakes

south of St. Rt. 4, Fairborn, Ohio. This is just minutes from
Dayton, Springfield, Xenia or New Carlisle. They are definitely

Lake Julie Ann
is located 2 ½ miles west of St. Rt. 128 in Miamistown. They have
a 7 ½ acre and 4 ½ acre lake. Both lakes are stocked with
shovelheads, blue cats, channel cats and big carp. They have
weekly jackpots for both big cats and big carp, they also have a
40 lb. and over catfish jackpot and a 25 lb. and over carp
jackpot.
Lake Julie Ann
also has a tournament every Saturday from 7 p.m. till 11 p.m. They

Bloom Lake has
pulled off the nearly impossible. YEP! They found a 100 lb.
bluecat for their lake. This 4 ½ foot monster was taken from the
Mississippi River. They have a special $2.00 jackpot on this brute
that pays $200.00 if you catch him.

Red Banc
Harbor Bait & Tackle is now open for this years fishing season.

outboard motor sales and service plus they buy and process raw
fur.

Harbor reports the white bass were hitting at the end of March.
Some nice catches of catfish are also being made. By the time you
read this, the crappies and saugeyes should be hitting.
HURON AREA
REPORT
Huron River
Valley Resort is located on 70 acres by the Huron River, not far
from the entrance to Lake Erie. The river channel is deep all the
way to the lake. They have overnight and seasonal campsites with
full hookups or tent camping. You can even get river sites with
your own dock. They also have a boat ramp and a marina. They have
flush toilets, hot showers, a camp store, firewood and even have
charter boats available. Huron River Valley Resort also has great
bank fishing. If you are not a camper, you can still fish for only
$5.00 a day.
