According to DNR studies, Winnie’s resident walleye population is as healthy as ever. And there are a number of bountiful year classes of trophy caliber fish. The big lakes ability to host fruitful breeding conditions has generated large year classes when other lakes failed. There is an abundance of walleyes between 18 and 25 inches, with another large group measuring 12 to 15 inches. Many of the fish in this second group will be prime targets by this summer. The third most prevalent size class are a contingency of walleyes from 26 to 29 inches. Now these are true lunkers!
